Parents' Page
Players are registered, Coaches have volunteered their time and been selected, Teams are formed, games and practices have been scheduled, and practices have begun.  It's time for another great CLBL season to begin!   This is the second year we are continuing to transform what we believe was a good culture for basketball into an even better one by continuing our partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance to transform youth sports so that sports can transform youth".
Our coaches are trained to be 'Double Goal Coaches'.  The first Goal is to win.  The second, more important goal, is to teach life lessons through sports.  The attached Parent Letter explaining the principles CLBL is adopting from the Positive Coaching Alliance:

1. Redefining Winner using the ELM Tree of Mastery
   Make a maximum Effort
   Learning & improving is continuous
Mistakes are ok - learn from them.
2. Filling the Emotional Tank
3. Honoring the Game which gets to the ROOTS of positive play:
   Rules: respect & follow them
Opponents: respect them, a worthy opponent is a gift that pushes us to play at our highest potential.
Officials: Always treat officials with respect even when we disagree.
Teammates: Support & encourage our teammates always
Self:  Set and live up to our own standards regardless of what others do

What does the League need from you as a parent?

  • Leadership - Each Team needs at least one PCA Culture Keeper - we  need one for each team,  but would prefer to train 2.  The First training will be Wednesday December 2, 2009 in the Smarts Mill Auditorium from 7:30-9:30pm. We will have additional training through the season.   Please see the attached document on the role of the Culture Keeper and let  your coach know you are willing to lead.
  • All Parents - Be a Second Goal Parent and support your Coach  and PCA Culture Keeper. We train & ask our coaches to be Double Goal Coaches: Recall that the Coach's Second and more  important, goal is to use sports to teach life lessons.  We ask that  all of our parents to be Second Goal Parents. Your primary goal as a parent should be the Second Coach's Goal: to help your player process the sports experience so that he or she is a stronger, more responsible and confident person who  will be successful in life.  Please see the attached article for the  'Second Goal Parent'.
